Background
We partnered with a dedicated charity serving vulnerable women. The charity operates across four sites, each providing essential support to women facing complex challenges, including domestic violence, mental health issues, and homelessness. However, communication gaps between these sites and the head office were hindering effective collaboration and decision-making.
We recognised through our discovery calls, the need to enhance communication channels, streamline processes and foster stronger teamwork. The charity sought a solution that would empower its teams to work cohesively, share insights, and collectively improve services for vulnerable women.
Solutions
HSP designed a comprehensive workshop series tailored to the charity’s unique context. Here’s how we addressed the challenge:
- Team Surveys: HSP conducted detailed surveys at each site based on our unique framework. These surveys delved into communication patterns, individual contributions and appreciation of one another and the charity's purpose. Staff members candidly shared their experiences, highlighting pain points and areas for improvement.
- Interactive Workshops: Following the surveys, HSP facilitated interactive workshops. These sessions brought together team members from all sites and the head office. Participants engaged in lively discussions, motivational exercises, and collaborative activities. Key topics included active listening, conflict resolution, and effective communication strategies.
- Empowering Teams: Rather than imposing top-down solutions, HSP empowered teams to take ownership. Through guided discussions, teams identified their specific communication barriers and brainstormed practical solutions. Each site customised its approach, recognising its unique context and challenges.
Results
The impact of the workshops was profound:
- Enhanced Communication: Teams developed a shared language and understanding. They adopted clear communication channels, ensuring vital information flowed seamlessly. Regular virtual check-ins and cross-site collaboration became the norm.
- Empowered Decision-Making: Teams felt empowered to make decisions collaboratively. They implemented changes such as streamlined reporting processes, improved documentation, and efficient resource allocation.
- Positive Service Outcomes: The improved communication directly benefited vulnerable women. Case management became more efficient, response times shortened, and support services more effective.
- Cohesive Network: The charity transformed into a cohesive network, united by a common purpose. Staff morale improved, and the charity’s impact expanded.
